The feisty Jack Russell Terrier named Uggie is leaving his paw print on the entertainment world for his performance as “Jack” in the Ocscar-nominated film The Artist. Uggie has earned top accolades, winning the Palm Dog Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for Best Performance by a Canine and the Dog News Daily’s Golden Collar Award for Best Dog in a Theatrical Film. There’s even a Facebook campaign “Consider Uggie” for an Academy Award.
Like a great Hollywood rags to riches story, Uggie was on his way to the dog pound when he was rescued by Omar Von Muller, a film industry animal trainer. According to the ASPCA, “approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year.” Source: www.aspca.org.
Whether or not they are famous actors or just stars at home, pets enjoy center stage at 63 percent of all households in the United States, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. Before you adopt a pet, there are many factors to consider like choosing the right pet for your lifestyle, selecting a veterinarian and creating a safe environment. You’ll also need some basic supplies like pet food, toys, a collar, leash, crate (for dogs) and litter pan (for cats).
Paper Training – The Pet Care Binder
A new pet can create a few messes, including a pile of paperwork. You’ll need a place to store all your pet-related documents like adoption and pedigree papers, veterinarian records, vaccinations and dog license information. Create your own Pet Care Binder using a Bindertek Binder and Quick Print Custom Tabs. Use Bindertek’s online tab creator and fill in your own pet care tab titles. Click here to see a sample Pet Care Quick Print Tab Set that can be easily modified to suit your needs.
Add pre-punched Bindertek Photo Pages to your binder and document your new puppy or kitten’s growth from month to month. Create a contact information section so you can find important numbers like your veterinarian, dog groomer, pet sitter and breeder. You can also create a reference guide for pet sitters with all the pertinent information they need to care for your pets including emergency numbers, feeding schedule and special medical needs.
Your pet may never walk down the red carpet, but with a little planning and organization, he or she will have a starring role in your home.
